About our Ministry.....
Currently we are involved in the following areas of ministry:
· National Church Planting Ministry.
Steve is a member of the German National Church Planting Ministry Team, which was established about 8 years ago for the purpose of training, coaching, encouraging, supporting, and guiding new church plants and planters. This ministry is a branch of the German Pentecostal Movement.
· Church Planting Team Coordinator for Saxony.
The challenge for the churches in the State of Saxony is to regain the God given vision of the church to plant new churches in their geographical area and beyond their borders. This entails informing and promoting this burden to the present churches and pastors as well as training the church planters and their teams and the establishment of a support structure around the church planter and plant to make sure they are successful in what they do.
· Church Planting School.
One of the means by which we hope to attain this broad goal mentioned above, is the Church Planting School, which was launched in April of 2005. The first school trained 7 church planting teams from 7 different cities in Saxony. The second school starts up soon with 7 more teams.
· Mentoring and coaching
An important aspect of our ministry is mentoring and coaching in order to train new workers in East Germany. Steve works with pastors and church planters and Christina with their wives.
· Regional Financial Fund – Saxony.
We are also introducing the idea of pledges to the German churches by developing a financial support plan for obtaining financial support for the church planters in Saxony.
· Church Renewal School
We have discovered, that in order to establish a healthy church planting movement we must also concentrate on strengthening our base of existing churches. Right now about 40% of our churches in Saxony are under 25 church attendee's with another 40% between 25-50. Some of these churches have been at this level for years!! Our team is now working on a "Church Renewal School" training program to assist our existing churches to take inventory of their present position - assess how they got there - discover what they need to move ahead in order to become the church God has called them to be. We will focus on subjects tailored for church ministry such as: relationships, leadership, team, discipleship, structures and the dynamic process of change.
· Two church plants
We are involved in two church plants, one in Dresden-Gorbitz that was started in February of 2004 and the other one in the city of Kamenz that was started in January of 2005.
· We believe that God is going to revive this part of Germany, which was once the birth place of the Reformation.
History of our ministry:
· Together Steve & Christina attained full appointment as A/G missionaries in 1989.
· 1990- 1997 they served as missionaries to Austria.
· January 1st, 1998 appointment as Area Director of Central Europe. They served in that capacity until August 31st, 2004 and were responsible for around 90 missionaries in the countries of Austria, Czech Republic, Germany, Hungary, Poland, Slovakia and Switzerland.
· In June 2001 the Walents moved to Dresden in former East Germany.
· 2004 was a transition year for the Walents. Since September of 2004 their ministry focus is to assist with church planting in East Germany.
